Effingham Public Library Hosts Local Artist Alysha Loy
The work of local artist Alysha Loy is on display through March 30 in the art gallery at the Suzette Brumleve Memorial Effingham Public Library.
Loy, 28, of Effingham, earned an associate’s degree in fine arts from Lake Land College, where she “developed a passion for acrylic painting,” she said. “I’ve always been interested in a variety of art forms, including sketching and working with clay. However, my primary focus on acrylic painting has developed over the past several years. After dabbling here and there following college, I returned to painting more intentionally about three to four years ago, after taking a short break following the birth of my son.”
She gets much of her inspiration “from nature: landscapes, open skies, the moon, and moments of natural beauty,” she said. “I’m also inspired by artists I discover on social media, such as Steph Moon and Philip Boelter, as well as influential artists like Claude Monet, Georgia O’Keeffe, and even Bob Ross, whose work celebrates the beauty and emotion found in the natural world.”
Art “offers both escape and connection,” she added. “The creative process can be therapeutic, almost meditative, allowing the mind to slow down and focus fully on the present moment. In a world that often feels fast-paced and overwhelming, art provides a space to release stress, process emotions, and regain a sense of calm.
The art exhibit is free and a library card is not required to view the exhibit.
